        The Back Mountain is located just outside of the Valley. It is made up of Dallas, Shavertown, Harvey’s Lake, Trucksville, Sweet Valley and Hunlock Creek. Many describe The Back Mountain as a private, country setting.  Even though The Back Mountain seems rural, it’s only a short drive to places such as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, Electric City Aquarium, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders Minor League Baseball, Wilkes/Scranton Penguins Hockey and the Mohegan Sun Casino.

        The Back Mountain includes two highly desirable public school districts, Dallas and Lake Lehman. As well as being the home to Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus and Misericordia University for higher education.

        The Back Mountain is the home to several local lakes, Harvey’s Lake, Francis Slocum, Moon Lake and Shickshinny Lake and many outdoor trails such as The Back Mountain Trail, Rickets Glenn and Frances Slocum State Park.  Along with trails for hiking and biking, Frances Slocum State Park and Rickets Glenn also offers spots for fishing, boating, and camping.  Along with outdoor activities, The Back Mountain offers multiple local gyms including Danko’s All American Fitness, and Anytime Fitness.  For golfing checkout Irem Country Club, Lehman Golf Club, Huntsville Golf Club and Greystone Mountain Golf Club.

        The area also includes local fresh farms such as Hillside Farms, Brace’s Orchard, Dymonds farm, Darlings Farm, Delkanics Greenhouse & Farm Market, and Whistle Pig Farm.  Each farm offers seasonal activities such as pumpkin, blueberry, strawberry, and sunflower picking!  Along with selling their fresh fruits, veggies, milk, and ice cream.
